Day seven
Today’s OSINT challenge takes a bit longer than Day six. Not too much longer, mind you.
Day seven’s challenge is marked as being a Medium difficulty challenge, but this time no French language is needed. In fact it’s a very English challenge…
Question one
In 1963, the Beatles released the first edition of their Christmas “flexi-disc”. These limited editions, both humorous and a symbol of the group’s musical and artistic creativity, were distributed to members of the band’s British fan club.
In the first flexi-disc, one of the boys speaks at 4:05 and thanks three people.
What are their surnames?
We need to listen to the disc to uncover the answer. Thankfully it’s quite readily available. I found this site which had the whole disk embedded and listenable.
At the 4:05 minute mark George Harrison speaks:
… Anne Collingham and Bettina Rose. Not to mention Freda Kelly in Liverpool.
Those surnames are the answers. Easy!
Question two
When Freda Kelly is mentioned, you can hear the group exclaim « Good ol’ Freda! ». Several years later, this expression would be chosen as the title of a documentary about Freda’s life.
In the trailer of this documentary, Freda explains that she had naïvely given her personal address for the fan club, and this is briefly illustrated by an envelope.
From which city and which country does the mail come?
We can find the trailer for ‘Good ol’ Freda!’ here. At around the 0:45 second mark we can see the envelope mentioned in the question. The Beatles fan-club was based in Liverpool, so this wasn’t the answer.
At the top of the envelope there’s a stamp reading ‘GALANTI TRANZIT’. After quickly searching for ‘Galanti’ we can see that it’s a city (Actual spelling is Galați) in Romania. That’s the second answer!
Question three
Those Beatles’ flexi-discs are collector’s items; for instance, a 1965 flexi-disc is part of a museum’s permanent collection.
What is its inventory number?
Searching Google for beatles 1965 christmas record museum will give us this Liverpool Museum page on the record in question. It includes the Accession number, which is our answer.
Conclusion
Another fairly easy challenge day. This made me feel a lot better about missing… Many days in a row.
